Saltwater-vs-Freshwater

Freshwater-vs-Saltwater-aquariums

Remember when we were kids bringing home goldfish in plastic bags and bowls from the country fair’s and giving our poor parent’s an headache, with what to do with them when you get them home? And how will we take care of them? But always they found a way to manager, and now it’s our turn.

There are two types of fish

One that can thrive in freshwater and those that can thrive in saltwater. So before we buy our aquarium and the fish you have a decision to make.

Will it be freshwater or saltwater for your aquarium let’s take a look at the two different types?

Freshwater Aquariums

Most of the freshwater tropical fish are beautiful to look at no matter what their markings. Some are more than others but if you’ve never dealt with them before you will be amazed by the variety.

Just remember each freshwater fish do have different requirements for their living environment, but most will do well together

For beginners, freshwater aquariums are easier to take care of. You can use de-chlorinate water straight from your tap to fill the tank with before adding any livestock, but there are kits available that will help you with preparing your water quality.

From my experience, you will find starting with live-bearing fish more enjoyable and you will also find that they thrive better and are not too particular about their environment.

What is important is keeping the temperature right live-bearers usually like a temperature of between 24 – 26 Celsius that’s 76 – 80 Fahrenheit for us old school

In general, you will find freshwater aquariums are not as expensive as the saltwater variety. You can get a thirty-gallon tank complete setup for around £100. This may sound expensive but in the long run, you will save money because you won’t have to spend more on additional equipment.

Saltwater Aquariums

Remember going into your first aquarium shop and seeing their saltwater tank on show and saying I’m going to have one of those one day. Yes, Saltwater aquariums can give you a long-lasting impression throughout your life.

Saltwater fish are a little more delicate than the other fish you may be used to, at least in the beginning. Setting up their environment is crucial to their survival. It all begins with the water quality and the filter system you choose, and they are a lot on the market.

But bear in mind saltwater aquariums can be a lot of fun, but they can be more expensive and require more work and time, This is why most beginners choose the freshwater variety first. If you are dedicated and willing to learn all that is required about keeping a saltwater system you will manage to have them running smoothly.

Conclusion

Starting from new I would pick freshwater first because they are so much easier to keep than saltwater and a lot less expensive and if you are willing to learn you will find that you can set up a really attractive and colourful freshwater system.

Tropical saltwater fish may cost quite a bit more than freshwater fish and takes a bit more time to maintain but when you see the variety and the bright colours you will be amazed, and hard-pressed to leave them behind.
